The 2018 NBA Manifesto

Ryan Arcidiacono
PG - 6’3, 195lbs - 24 years old - 1 year of experience

It is hard to see a path to a future in the NBA for Arcidiacono due to factors outside of his control. Most obviously, his body type and physical profile already disadvantage him - this is not a large basketball man, and nor is he a fast one.

Headiness, poise, IQ and unselfishness can get a man so far. Arcidiacono has those attributes, generally, and he has demonstrated them at every level prior to this one. Also a good shooter in every level beneath this one, Arcidiacono’s NBA role, should it exist, is to compete on D, hit open shots, kick start the offence, find shooters, and not to take too long over anything because no one on the court or in the crowd benefits from watching him dribble.

As always in these situations, the favourable comparison is often thrown to Matthew Dellavedova – but then again, who wants that? A 3:1 assist/turnover ratio and 44.6% three-point shooting for the Windy City Bulls in the G-League bode well and speak to Arcidiacono’s quality as a player. Yet the speed and athleticism of the NBA game requires quality players to also be athletes themselves, or be an extra level of quality to overcome.

Arcidiacono has not yet shown that. And he may never do. It further doesn’t help that this is a Bulls team already with three young point guards to sift between, and a fourth guard in Zach LaVine who keeps trying to handle the ball as much as one. Arcidiacono, then, has the odds stacked against him here.

Player Plan: Expiring two-way contract. Would not offer another, but would offer summer league gig and possible training camp contract with very small guaranteed money.
