2017 NBA Manifesto

Georges Niang
SF/PF, 6’8, 230lbs, 24 years old, 1 year of experience

93 NBA minutes is not a sample size worth evaluating, even though a 0.1 PER in that time is rather jarring. But nor did he spend much time on assignment for whatever reason. The college Niang was smart and skilled, but looked too slow for the NBA wing spot. So as a power forward, he needs to make his mark as a high post passer, pick-and-pop player, rebounder, and not-too-overexposed defender. But given that he is not wanted in the short term, that he is not being sent to the Mad Ants to develop, and that his upside is not all that high even if he came good, there does not seem to be much point in keeping him next season.

Player Plan: Two years at the minimum salary remaining, unguaranteed. Has not done anything in one year to prove he is an NBA player, and while that is always going to be difficult in one year, he is sufficiently old as to not have that many to play with, and Leaf just pushed him further down. Probably not worth keeping.
