When not with the Rockets, Quarterman was with the G-League’s Agua Caliente Clippers, where he put up unique averages: 8.9ppg, 5.3rpg, 4.5topg, 4.3apg. Quarterman’s calling card is disruptive three-position defence, which he exudes no matter how he is playing offensively, and he does have incisive passing vision. However, unreliable on the ball, and a poor shooter off it, his NBA future is tenuous until he resolves one of them.

With no free agents and a lot of draft picks coming in, roster spots are at a premium, and in having an unguaranteed contract, Quarterman’s contract is very much in the firing line. His 81 NBA minutes are not a meaningful sample size, but his 22 games on assignment are, and they weren’t great. Quarterman scored very inefficiently (more points than shots) and turned the ball over at a very high rate, showing he is not a full-time on-the-ball option at the NBA level. This things are also reflective of his college career. So if he is not an on-the-ball player, and if far more efficient off-the-ball players can be found (they can), then Quarterman’s NBA potential can only be found defensively, where his positional versatility would be a virtue. But he needs time to learn NBA defences, and he might not find it here any longer.

Player Plan: One year of unguaranteed minimum salary with no guarantee date remaining. Might as well give him summer league and camp to try and prove himself, but with picks to sign, expecting him to be waived.
