Rob Kurz

Often playing centre at Wisconsin, Marcus [Landry] is reinventing himself as a three point shooting small forward at the NBA level, decently athletic and with adequate defense. He played for both the Knicks and the Celtics last season in this role, surviving most of the season on an NBA roster. However, the prognosis for such players is about a one or two year career. Bill Walker's been lucky to have signed a four year contract; however, other players of a similar ilk (Demetris Nichols, Rob Kurz, Kaniel Dickens, Marcus Vinicius) have never gotten beyond the two year mark. This of course does not dictate that it is over for Landry, or even that it will be soon; it does, however, suggest that he needs a new string to his bow.

Kurz was a Chicago Bull as of 9 days ago. He never played for them, but got a few grand and great playoff seats for the privilege of spending two months with the greatest team in the world. Kurz is an NBA calibre player with very good rebounding numbers, decent defense and an old-school one handed jumpshot, a face-up combo forward with occasional post offense who should be in the NBA somewhere next year. However, I'm not sure it will be with the Lakers. He would be a luxury for them, i.e. a non-rotation player. And they can't really afford those.

Rob Kurz - Kurz was waived way back in paragraph 16, but not because he's awful. It was purely for the financial benefits of doing so. And once those other financial factors are accounted for, there is no problem with Kurz once again propping up the inactive list. He can play.

Kurz is in the D-League playing for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. He is averaging 17.2 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, shooting 49% from the field and 43% from three point range. It was reported that Kurz was going to leave the team back in January and sign with Aris Thessaloniki in Greece, yet the deal did not go through, apparently due to a dispute about the amount of buyout money. So Kurz stayed put.

Aris were knocked out of the Eurocup last night, blown out big style by a dominant Valencia led by Matt Nielsen and Sergei Lishouk. (Victor Claver also had two lovely dunks in that game, including a poster on Andy Betts.) They are also only 8th out of 14 in the Greek league (or 13 since Olympia Larissa were suspended for the rest of the year due to unpaid registration fees), and have nothing really left to play for this year. Yet they continue to crop up in all kinds of transfer rumours, even this late in the season. Just last week they were linked to Vuk Radivojevic (who left Crvena Zvezda due to lack of payment) and Derrick Low (whom Siauliai refused to let leave). Seemingly, David Blatt is trying to built his team for next year already. I can't say I'm too surprised that he wasn't overwhelmingly happy with Keydren Clark.
