"I used to have at least a 5-inch vertical, but over the years, it's dropped. It's now down to 2 or 3 inches." - Mark Pope

Milton Doyle
PG/SG - 6’4, 180lbs - 24 years old - 1 year of experience

Doyle spent almost all the full season in the G-League with the Long Island Nets, averaging 20.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 3.3 turnovers, 1.5 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. He did it via a high volume of threes (near-enough nine a game, on which he shot 37.1%), and is a pro scorer. Spins, cuts, some leap, quite a lot of pull-ups, step-backs; Doyle knows how to get buckets, and some streakiness in his still relatively new three-point range is a price worth paying.

What remains to be seen is if he can be an NBA calibre scorer. Doyle is pretty quick and athletic, but so are basically all NBA players, and other wing scorers are bigger. Doyle’s point guard turns and skills are more incidental than deliberate, and he also needs to diversify his attack further; the scoring instincts are strong, but Doyle is very right-hand dominant, drives into trouble at times, and often times overly looks to score.

Can he do enough of the other parts of the game to make it in the NBA? Maybe. The improved three-point shot reduces the margins required in the other aspects of his game to succeed, but Doyle does need to play extra-intense defence at the off-guard spot to stand out due to this slight lack of size. That is to say, a bit more than he does currently.

Nevertheless, another year in Long Island will help to truly establish his NBA credentials. So might some good European years.

Player Plan: Two-way contract is expiring. Would be a decent candidate for another one, but he might want to go make some money. A summer in the system and training camp contract make sense.
