2017 NBA Manifesto

Khris Middleton
SG/SF, 6’8, 234lbs, 25 years old, 5 years of experience

Middleton came back pretty well in the last third of the season after serious injury, though it didn’t make him any faster. A bit rusty, throwing the ball away quite a lot more than usual for one normally pretty heady, yet this Is to be expected after a long lay-off, and especially when returning ahead of schedule. His scoring infusion was welcomed, particularly so in light of the almost simultaneous injury to Parker. Middleton shot 43.3% from three, , rebounded a bit, shared the ball, did the little things, and held his position defensively. Every team could use Khris Middleton.

Player Plan: Three years and $40.1 million remaining, with the last year an option. A fair price for his services, aided by a declining contract, although could just as easily be in the Trade Chips column. No reason to look to trade, but keep the phone lines open.

Khris Middleton

Middleton played a fair amount for the Pistons last year, and played pretty well on offense, averaging 6.1 points in 18 minutes per game with remarkably few turnovers. The downside was poor defensive play, and a lack of true range - Middleton's herky jerky game of hesitation, floaters, turnarounds and the like from mid-range translates to the NBA with his size, but is not enough on its own. Middleton has a guaranteed contract for next season and will be back, but he needs to continue to develop the range and the defense to compliment his current skills.

An Unnecessarily Exhaustive Guide To The 2010/11 NCAA Tournament, Part 1: Southwestern Region

The Aggies are led by Khris Middleton [sic], a 6'7 sophomore small forward who has broken out remarkably quickly. Middleton's quirky yet effective offensive game sees him lead the team with 14.3 in slightly less than 30 minutes a contest, alongside 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Neither an out-and-out slasher not an out-and-out shooter, Middleton incorporates some of both of those facets, yet also dances around the in-between areas, moving all off the ball, moving with the ball, occasionally posting up, and routinely making tough, contested shots. They're not bad shots - Middleton just doesn't have the athleticism to sky over or blow by anybody, so he's learnt to adapt with pull-ups hesitation moves, and the like. That average athleticism doesn't affect him defensively, however, where he has the size and effort to make a decent impact. (It bears repeating that Middleton struggled down the stretch of the season, as defenses began to key on him. Partly due to his inexperience, and partly due to the rest of the team not being sufficient threats to ease the pressure on him.)
