The 2018 NBA Manifesto

Johnny O’Bryant
PF - 6’9, 257lbs - 25 years old - 4 years of experience

O’Bryant seems to have landed in journeyman territory, even at this young of an age. He has already been with five different NBA teams, and while he does enough to earn looks, he does not do enough to stick. Offensively skilled from both inside and out, O’Bryant’s post size combined with his stretch four sensibilities make for an intriguing combination that occasionally looks good. But said offensive talent is marginal when it is considered that he is inefficient from all areas of the court. He might not be if he was more judicious with his shot selection, but this is who he is. Also not a good rebounder due to bad hands and a bit of a lack of effort, and not a rim protector or fleet-of-foot perimeter player, O’Bryant may find himself out of a role in the NBA unless he can make more shots. Quicker stretch fours and better shooters are available. But regardless of his NBA prospects, O’Bryant should have a long career ahead of him as a Marcus Fizer type - he would, for example, be amazing in China.

2017 NBA Manifesto

Johnny O'Bryant
PF, 6’9, 257lbs, 24 years old, 3 years of experience

Barely played in the league last year despite multiple NBA contracts, and is fighting for his spot as an NBA player. Spent much of the season in the D-League trying to earn his way back, and did that, showing a rare combination of inside-outside skill in one so big and strong. It is however not the headiest of packages. O’Bryant takes plenty of tough shots, drops far too many passes, clanks lay-ups and, despite flashes defen-sively over the years, does not protect the rim and does not always bring the energy. When he does, and plays roughly within his limits offensively, he is an NBA power forward.

Player Plan: Unguaranteed minimum salary, guaranteeing August 1st, final year. Evaluate over the summer.
