Damion Lee
SG/SF - 6’6, 210lbs – 25 years old - 1 year of experience
As a very late season pick-up, Lee still managed to get a lot of court time in a handful of games. Those games came alongside a rotation full of very G-Leaguery players, which does not really fit with a player whose future is best as a finisher – Lee lacks the size, speed and handle to be much more than a ‘crafty’ player at this level. Nevertheless, at both the NBA and G-League levels, Lee showed two things:
1) He has that craftiness, an ability to score from the mid-range areas and in whether or not he is in rhythm, capable of hitting tough shots as well as a creating them a bit.
2) He cannot shoot three-pointers consistently.
Making the league as a mid-range shooting specialist is not really possible any more, and Lee needs a long summer of adding the consistency to his outside range to turn an audition into a job. As of right now, he has not moved the needle as a scorer, and while he looked solid enough defensively (or at least as much so as was possible on a very discombobulated team), his physical profile does not lead to favourable projections on that end.
If he can outplay Tyler Dorsey between now and next October, there is a chance. But even though Dorsey has a lot to prove himself, he does have the security of a contract.
Player Plan: Did not sign an unguaranteed contract for next season, unusually, so enters free agency this summer. No need to offer a QO – invite him to summer league, and training camp if he impresses, but he still has to prove it all.
