Johnathan Motley
PF - 6’10, 230lbs - 23 years old - 1 year of experience
Motley has a beast of a physical profile for the NBA. He is tall, he is strong, he is fast, and his arms go on for about half an hour. This guy was built to the NBA’s power forward specifications, and could work as a small ball centre too.
So good of a physical specimen is he that Motley’s skills do not need to be up to the level of some of his peers. If he can play within them; run, dunk, crash the glass, play intensely and actively, finish around the basket with power, limit himself to a couple of dribbles and limit himself to sticking to this things without having any delusions of grandeur, he could be quite the NBA player. These things, he mostly does; specialising as an offensive rebounder, Motley rolls and runs hard to the rim, and competes with everybody, even if they are seven feet.
It is fair to say that Motley does not have a hugely high skill level beyond the above. There is a bit of an outside jump shot in the works, but it is not efficient, and efforts to create from standing often result in a turnover. Motley does not have moves to finish on the interior, just grunt, and he also has a knack for throwing the ball away, biting on every fake and getting caught looking on defence.
Nevertheless, that package alone would make an impact on the NBA floor, just as it has done at every level before this one. Give Motley a full NBA contract and see what happens. It could be good.
Player Plan: Has a second season on his two-way contract, which should be honoured with the expectation that it may need converting to a full NBA contract some day soon.
