Atlanta - Shelvin Mack, Cartier Martin and Mike Scott: All three are rotation players on the resurgent Hawks, and playing well. Mack averages 6.9 points and 3.6 assists (alongside only 0.9 turnovers per game), Scott averages 7.2 points in only 14 minutes per game, and the somewhat one dimensional shooting specialist Martin is nonetheless shooting 41% from three. With no financial concerns to worry about, all three are surely certain to survive.

Also contained within that post was a list of players who had the right to veto any trade. Full no-trade clauses are an incredibly rare occurence; it takes a very specific set of criteria to become eligible for one of those, and for that reason, only two players (Kobe and Dirk Nowitzki) have them. However, players who are signed to one year contracts and who will have either Early or Full Bird Rights when they expire also have the right to veto any trade they are involved in. It's what's colloquially known as the Devean George Rule.

In some additional related bookkeeping, the reason for many of the players listed in the previous list was due to the NBA's contract guarantee date. All players on NBA rosters on or after January 10th have their contracts guaranteed for the remainder of the season (future seasons are unaffected); this also includes waivers. In-season waivers are 48 hours long and do not include weekends; therefore, with the 10th of January being a Monday, players had to be waived by close of business on Wednesday 5th in order to have cleared waivers before the deadline date.

Eleven players with not fully guaranteed contracts were waived in the hours before that deadline: Steve Novak, Damien Wilkins, Jarron Collins, John Lucas III, Ime Udoka, Lester Hudson, Ronald Dupree, Brian Skinner, Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Sundiata Gaines and Rodney Carney. Twenty seven unguaranteed players survived; Delonte West, Von Wafer, Brian Scalabrine, Samardo Samuels, Manny Harris, Alonzo Gee, Brian Cardinal, Melvin Ely, Gary Forbes, Jeremy Lin, Ish Smith, A.J. Price, Ike Diogu, Luc Richard Mbah A Moute, Ben Uzoh, Didier Ilunga-Mbenga, Shawne Williams, Malik Allen, Garret Siler, Patty Mills, Sean Marks, Darnell Jackson, Chris Quinn, Sonny Weems, Jeremy Evans, Cartier Martin and Hamady Ndiaye. Players with contracts who had already become guaranteed due to specific guarantee stipulations in their contracts were Sherron Collins, Derrick Brown, Josh McRoberts, Willie Warren, Derrick Caracter, Luther Head and Joey Dorsey.

Martin was a part of the small forward rotation at the very end of last season, playing decent defense and chipping in 6 points per game during the garbage time that was Washington's month of April. He's joined by Morrison, the oft-chronicled and seriously unsuccessful player, who continues to struggle with the awkward reality that he's better at hitting tough shots than open ones, without being good enough of a player to justify taking any tough ones. And considering that the only thing he's good at is scoring, this would be the reason why Adam Morrison's career thus far has been spectacularly underwhelming. The knee injury didn't help, but that's not what caused all this.

Cartier Martin - Martin is a restricted free agent of the Wizards, and is expected to return, despite the re-signing of Josh Howard today. He played 8 games with the Wizards to end last season, and even though he is currently not under contract to the team, they do have a qualifying offer extended to him. Martin started last in Italy, had a dreadful time, went to the D-League, averaged 21/5, and then got back into the NBA. In his 8 games for Washington, Martin scored 6.4 points per game on 38% shooting, and is a valid candidate to provide some wing depth next season. If things aren't as horrific as last year, he might not need to play so much.
