This list lists the nationality of all non-American
players in this
website's
player database.
It attempts to list the passports of all players, and not necessarily
just the country that they play for. For example,
David
Logan is American through and through, but he played in Poland
for long enough to be able to obtain a Polish passport through residency.
That passport helps his career, as it qualifies him as a European player,
which means he's no longer bound by the quotas on American players that
most European teams have. Many players have done the same thing, such
as
Spencer
Nelson,
Omar
Cook and
Shammond
Williams.
Sometimes, players will actually use these nationalised passports to
play a country not initially their own. Logan is one such example, as
are
Darius Washington and
Hiram Fuller. And some people with joint nationalities
are just of genuine mixed heritage, with no reasons of politicking or
convenience behind their multiple passports.
If someone's American, they're not on this list. The only American players
listed are those with at least one other passport, such as Logan. This
list can be kind of useful for knowing who has a European passport (see
Logan), as well as just being fun for trivia.
Also not included are people eligible for passports that they don't
have. But, for the record,
Robert Swift is part-Japanese, and
Drew Gooden
is half-Finnish.
