Dirk Nowitzki: Drafted 9th overall in 1998. Signed to rookie salary scale contract for that year. Signed a 6 year, $90 million extension in October 2001. Signed a 3 year extension worth $60 millionish in September 2006.

Erick Dampier: Signed and traded to Dallas with a 7 year, $73 million contract in August 2004. Contract contains performance bonuses currently listed as "likely." Last season is fully unguaranteed, which becomes full guaranteed if 1) Dampier is selected to play in any three NBA All-Star Games between the 2004-2005 and 2009-2010 seasons, or 2) Dampier plays at least 2,100 minutes in the 70 regular season games in the 2009-2010 season in which he plays his most minutes (and if he plays in less than 70 regular season games in the 2009-2010 season, then he must play at least 2,100 minutes for the entire regular season). Confusing, yes. Useful as a trade chip, totally.

Caron Butler: Drafted 10th overall in 2002. Signed to rookie salary scale contract for that year. Signed a 5 year, $44,999,900 extension in October 2005. Apparently they didn't want to round it up that last $100 dollars, just to make all of our lives that much harder. Contract also has performance bonuses.

Jason Terry: Re-signed to a 6 year, $61 and a bit million contract in July 2006. Has performance bonuses currently listed as "unlikely." Final year is only $5 million guaranteed until July 15th 2011, but can also become fully guaranteed if Terry plays more than 1,500 minutes in more than 60 games in 2010-11 season.

Jason Kidd: Re-signed to a 3 year, $25 million contract in July 2009. For reasons that aren't immediately obvious, the contract has $100,000 of incentives in the first year currently listed as "likely."

Shawn Marion: Signed and traded to Dallas with a 5 year, $39,879,660 contract in July 2009. Contract contains performance bonuses to the tune of $250,000 a year currently listed as "likely." Also has a 15% trade kicker.

Brendan Haywood: Drafted 10th overall in 2003. Signed to rookie salary scale contract for that year. Signed a 5 year, $25 million extension in November 2004.

Matt Carroll: Re-signed to a 6 year, $26.9 million contract in July 2007. Six years. Matt Carroll. Yep.

DeShawn Stevenson: Re-signed to a 4 year, $15 million contract in July 2007.

Eduardo Najera: Signed a frontloaded 4 year $12 million contract in July 2008. Last two years are both all but $500,000 guaranteed, and become fully guaranteed if Najera is not waived on or before June 30th 2010.

Jose Barea: Signed a two year minimum salary contract in August 2006. Qualifying offer extended in June 2008. Re-signed to a three year $4,972,500 contract in July 2008.

Rodrigue Beaubois: Drafted 25th overall in 2009. Signed to rookie salary scale contract for that year.

Greg Buckner: Signed a 5 year contract starting at $3,240,741 in July 2006. Contract was initially 3 years and $9.5 million, but two more seasons at maximum raises were tacked on afterwards. Contract had a trade kicker that boosted its value after trade to Minnesota. Final two seasons are only partially guaranteed, to the tune of $1 million plus trade kicker of that amount in year 4 (total of $1,062,398), and $1,064,516 in year 5. So basically the team could waive him before November 30th 2009 and pay only $2,126,914 for the final two years. And that's exactly what happened.

Tim Thomas: Signed a one year minimum salary contract in July 2009. Thomas is actually being paid $1,306,455, the minimum salary for a ten or more year veteran, but as his minimum salary contract is only for one year and he has more than two years of experience, the team is only billed an amount equal to the minimum salary of a two year vet. The league pays the rest.
