Pre-draft night trades:


Below is a list of trades involving 2010 draft picks that happened prior to the night of the draft. This is to, hopefully, help explain why the teams do not consistently pick in the reverse order of standings. Draft night trades can be found on the Draft 2010 page.



 First round, picks 1-3: Washington, Philadelphia and New Jersey won the top 3 spots in the lottery, thus moving up.

 First round, pick 9: Utah acquired New York's first round pick, via Phoenix. The Suns acquired the pick as a part of the Stephon Marbury etc trade of January 2004, and Utah received it from them in the Tom Gugliotta salary dump one month later.

 First round, pick 15 & 17: Milwaukee and Chicago swapped first round picks as a part of the John Salmons trade of February 2010.

 First round, pick 16: Minnesota acquired Charlotte's first round pick, via Denver, first round pick as a part of the Ty Lawson trade of draft night 2009. Denver acquired it on draft night 2008 in exchange for the rights to Alexis Ajinca.

 First round, pick 18: Oklahoma City acquired Miami's first round pick as a part of the Daequan Cook salary dump of June 2010.

 First round, pick 23: Minnesota acquired Utah's first round pick, via Philadelphia, as a part of the Rodney Carney salary dump of July 2008. Philadelphia had previously acquired it in December 2007 in exchange for Kyle Korver.

 First round, pick 25: Memphis acquired Denver's first round pick as a part of the Steven Hunter salary dump of August 2009.

 First round, pick 26: Oklahoma City acquired Phoenix's first round pick as a part of the Kurt Thomas salary dump in July 2007.

 First round, pick 27: New Jersey acquired Dallas's first round pick as a part of the Jason Kidd trade of February 2008.

 First round, pick 28: Memphis acquired the L.A. Lakers's first round pick as a part of the Pau Gasol trade of February 2008.

 First round, pick 30: Washington acquired Cleveland's first round pick as a part of the Antawn Jamison trade of February 2010.



 Second round, pick 32: Miami acquired Minnesota's second round pick, via Oklahoma City. OKC first acquired the pick as a part of the Etan Thomas salary dump in July 2007, and Miami acquired it from OKC as a part of the Daequan Cook salary dump of June 2010.

 Second round, pick 34: Portland acquired Golden State's second round pick in exchange for the 44th pick (see below) and cash in June 2010.

 Second round, pick 37: Milwaukee acquired Philadelphia's second round pick as a part of the Jodie Meeks trade in February 2010.

 Second round, pick 39: New York acquired the L.A. Clippers's second round pick, via Denver. Denver acquired the right to swap 2010 second round picks from L.A. as a part of the Marcus Camby trade in July 2008, and New York acquired it from Denver in the Renaldo Balkman trade two weeks later.

 Second round, pick 41: Miami acquired New Orleans's second round pick as a part of the Marcus Thornton trade on draft night 2009.

 Second round, pick 42: Miami acquired Toronto's second round pick as a part of the Shawn Marion trade of February 2009.

 Second round, pick 43: L.A. Lakers acquired Memphis's second round pick as a part of the Pau Gasol trade in February 2008.

 Second round, pick 44: Milwaukee acquired Chicago's second round pick, via Portland and Golden State, as a part of the Corey Maggette trade of June 2010. Golden State first acquired the pick from Portland as a part of the trade for the 34th pick (see above), and Portland acquired the pick from Chicago as a part of the Omer Asik trade on draft night 2008.

 Second round, pick 45: Minnesota acquired Houston's second round pick as a part of the Kirk Snyder salary dump in February 2008.

 Second round, pick 46: Phoenix acquired Charlotte's second round pick as a part of the Boris Diaw in December 2008.

 Second round, pick 50: Dallas acquired Oklahoma City's second round pick as a part of the Rodrigue Beaubois trade of draft night 2009.

 Second round, pick 51: Oklahoma City acquired Portland's second round pick, via Minnesota and Dallas. Dallas first acquired the pick on draft night 2009 as a part of Portland's deal to move up in the draft; later that same night, Dallas traded the pick to Minnesota for the rights to Nick Calathes. Then a month later, Minnesota traded the pick to Oklahoma City as a part of the Etan Thomas salary dump (see pick 32).

 Second round, pick 54: See pick 39.

 Second round, pick 56: Minnesota acquired Phoenix's second round pick as a part of the Alando Tucker salary dump in December 2009.

 Second round, pick 57: Indiana acquired Dallas's second round pick as a part of the Eddie Jones trade in October 2008.

 Second round, pick 60: Phoenix acquired Cleveland's second round pick as a part of the Shaquille O'Neal trade on draft day 2009.
