January 2000: Sued, along with Antoine Walker and Chauncey Billups, for attempted rape. Settled out of court. No charges brought.
 
August 2007: Turned himself in to police, arrested and charged for misdemeanour assault. Mercer and his friend were arguing with some girl in a strip club, the bouncer asked them to leave, then Mercer's friend stabbed the bouncer and Mercer allegedly punched him. Pled guilty, received probation.
