Lazaros Papadopoulos

Forward/centre

29th May 2009: Arrested by Greek police due to an outstanding traffic violation dating back to 2001. Ended up spending a night in jail, as he was unable to pay the fine due to the banks being closed, before finally paying the 1,200 Euro fine the following day and being released. Additionally, Papadopoulos racked up so many traffic fines in the 2009/10 season that his club, Fortitudo Bologna (who paid them all) filed a claim in arbitration to get the money back.

October 2010: At the beginning of the 2010/11 season, Papadopolous, head of the Greek players union, tried to organise a strike of all domestic players playing in the Greek A1 league. Most players joined him; however, the Greek players for Panathinaikos and Olympiakos did not, and crossed the picket iine. Panathinaikos played Papadopoulos's club PAOK Thessaloniki in week one; after the game, Papadopoulos tried to confront the Pana players about the issue. He was met by riot police, who may have arrested him. (Reports are conflicting.) The strike ended soon fter as the rest of the league realised its futility, and a disenfranchised Papadopoulos later left to play in Russia.
