Joe Smith

Forward

July 1996: Arrested for maliciously wounding a male exotic dancer, whacking him with a bottle that caused a gash that needed 22 stitches. Was found not guilty after 5 witnesses testified that the guilty party was a man over a foot shorter than the rather noticable 6'11 Smith.

Summer 2000: Smith, along with Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor and GM Kevin McHale, signed a document agreeing to a future 7 year $86 million contract between Smith and the team, a pretty serious violation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, one which they might have gotten away with if they hadn't quite stupidly written it down. The franchise was fined $3.5 million and had its first round draft picks for the next 5 years removed (2 of qwhich were re-instated a while later for good behaviour). Smith's current contract with the Timberwolves was voided, and the league reserved the right to void any future contracts between he and the Wolves. As it turns out, Smith played one season with the Pistons, and then re-signed with the Timberwolves at the earliest possible opportunity, which the league did not stop.
